Just North of Hidden Springs off of Dry Creek Road there is a trail called Red Tail. I have Hiked it with my kids countless times and every time we see something we didn't see before and we always see some kind of wild life. I have taken craft plaster up there with the kids and made animal foot print casts, its always fun to try and identify what animal left the print. You can look for clues in the surrounding areas such as droppings, fur, and vegitation. My kids really like to do this especially this time of year when the days are cooler. There is a trail map at the trail head parking lot and you can also look at the Ridge to Rivers Page for this trail and many others. I usually don't hike to the top of red tail with my kids because it is a longer hike than they want to do at this point but it is always fun. I have seen families hike to the top of the first ridge and eat a picnic dinner and watch the Sun set, what a fun thing to do this fall. Heres the link to Ridge To Rivers , this is a great page to find all the awesome trail systems here in Boise. If you know of other trails that are here in town that you would like to share with others let everyone know on our page. Have fun and be safe:)

The deer are coming back to the area right now, as I type. This is a big wintering ground for the deer and they are thick during the colder months.
